Course of the Operation

Eyelid surgery, such as the treatment of drooping eyelids and puffy bags, is generally carried out under local anaesthesia. For medical reasons or if explicitly demanded by the patient, the operation may also be performed under general anaesthesia. During eyelid surgery natural skin lines are used for incisions so that visible scars can be avoided. For corrections of the lower lid an invisible incision into the conjunctiva leads to the best results. The aim of the eyelift is to considerably rejuvenate the eyes by removing excess skin.

According to the most recent treatment recommendations (see also Facelift) the exclusive removal of excess tissue is no longer advisable. Especially regarding fatty tissue, better long-term results can be achieved if those tissue areas which produced tear sacs and drooping eyelids in the first place are transplanted back to their original position.

Swelling and bruising normally subside a couple of days after the operation. For the most part, stitches are removed four days after surgery.
