Course of the Operation: Ear Correction, Otoplasty

The choice of the most effective surgical procedure for otoplasty depends on various factors: the type of malformation, the previous experience of the surgeon, and the condition of the cartilage tissue.

For a standard ear correction the incision is made on the backside of the ear. All necessary measures can be carried out through that small opening. Adults usually receive local anaesthesia, while general anaesthesia is recommended for children.

The ideal time for otoplasty is between five and seven years. However, it can still be performed on adult patients. For one or two weeks after the operation the patient has to wear a head bandage and then a headband for another two to three weeks.

We frequently use resorbable stitches.
