The older we get, the more teeth we tend to lose. The absence of teeth, however, also leads to a progressing loss of bone tissue which can become substantial if left unattended. Especially conventional full or partial dentures accelerate the deterioration of the bone. Consequently, the dentures do not fit properly and begin to lose their hold. This unfortunate limitation to one's ability to chew properly is often complicated by general or diet-related health impairments. So the desire to take a healthy bite, laugh out loud or talk without worrying about one's teeth is very understandable.
With the help of dental implants it is possible nowadays to restore especially elderly patients' quality and enjoyment of life. Our team has accumulated a lot of experience providing elderly patients with implants, who, in some cases, are more than 80, or even more than 90 years old. We use a variety of treatment methods from which we can choose the most suitable one for each patient. Depending on the individual wishes and medical requirements we use implant-supported prostheses that are either permanent or removable. Within these two basic categories we offer various types of implants and prostheses, which let us acknowledge the individual wishes of the patients, their general condition, and their financial resources.
When anchoring the implants we make sure that we only use gentle and largely painless procedures. The patient is under local anaesthesia for the whole duration. Our state-of-the-art techniques often make complicated bone augmentation obsolete. If bone augmentation should be necessary after all, we are able to do that in a very gentle and painless manner.
During post-operative check-ups patients frequently state that they had no or little use of painkillers. Independent of the fact if only one or more implants were placed, the patients usually receive provisional dental prostheses right after the implantation. Accordingly, our patients are never without teeth for the whole duration of the treatment.
After the implantation a healing period of several months is required. During that time our patients wear provisional dental prostheses. After that period existing or newly created dentures can be fixed onto the implants.
Independent of the age of the patient, permanent implant-based crowns and bridges are the most advantageous treatment in every respect. No matter if patients are suffering from progressive bone loss or not, they can all benefit from our gentle treatment procedures. Some of them even drive long hours to get that kind of treatment.
If certain requirements are met, the fixture of permanent dental prostheses can take place shortly after the insertion of the implants. A few hours or days after the implantation the prostheses (crowns, bridges, and dentures) can be fixed onto the implants so that patients can bite heartily again within no time.
In many cases we extract teeth that cannot be saved and immediately replace them with implants. This can also be done in the case of elderly patients.
