Efficient operation techniques now enable us to carry out aesthetic and functional corrections on an outpatient basis. Both are performed under general anaesthesia or twilight anaesthesia (sedation).
Rhinoplasty usually requires incisions inside the nostrils. A small additional incision may sometimes be necessary in the area of the bridge. This scar normally heals without any complications and leaves no visible traces.
In nose surgery we differentiate between operations that affect both cartilage and bone structures and those which only affect cartilage tissue. In both cases the nasal skeleton is stabilised with a special splint for about 1-2 weeks after the operation. Swelling and bruising normally recede after 1-2 weeks. During the healing process the skin automatically smoothes out and adapts to the new nasal form.
A basic principle of rhinoplasty is the inseparableness of aesthetic and functional considerations which play a role in all stages of the treatment.
