Through an incision in the lower mouth area the chin can be either displaced forwards or backwards. It is then fixed in the new position through titanium screws and plates which have to stay in for several months till the skeletal healing process is completed.
If your chin should be enhanced or reconstructed with the help of implants, a similar incision in the lower mouth area is required. Alternatively, the implant can be inserted through an incision just below the chin.
In addition to a chin correction, the profile of the lower jaw, chin, and neck area can be substantially enhanced through liposuction.
Chin corrections (genioplasty) are usually performed under general anaesthesia. In the case of liposuction, tumescent aneasthesia is preferable to general anaesthesia.
After the operation a dressing is used to facilitate the healing process.
